People v. Christopher Daniel Leroi. 14PDJ050. June 27, 2014. The Presiding Disciplinary Judge approved the parties’ conditional admission of misconduct and suspended Christopher Daniel Leroi (Attorney Registration Number 22145) for sixty days, all stayed upon a two-year period of probation, with conditions. The probation takes effect August 1, 2014.
In November 2012, Leroi failed to yield when exiting a bank parking lot, causing another driver to forcefully break in order to avoid hitting Leroi’s vehicle. The other driver honked her horn, and Leroi threw his hands up in the air. Both parties continued driving until they stopped at a red light. Leroi proceeded to exit his vehicle, approach the other driver’s car, yell profanities at her, and tell her that he was an off-duty cop. He then gave her a false name and badge number before eventually driving away. Criminal charges were filed against Leroi, and he pleaded guilty to one count of harassment. He was given a twelve-month deferred sentence and ordered to pay costs and to continue with mental health treatment, counseling, and prescription medication. Leroi has a history of chronic major depression and regrets his conduct. Leroi timely reported his conviction to the Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel.
Through this conduct, Leroi violated Colo. RPC 8.4(b) (it is professional misconduct for an attorney to commit a criminal act that reflects adversely on the lawyer’s honesty, trustworthiness, or fitness as a lawyer); and Colo. RPC 8.4(c) (proscribing conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation).
