People v. Sean Patrick Young. 15PDJ107. March 4, 2016. The Presiding Disciplinary Judge granted a motion for entry of default and imposed reciprocal discipline, publicly censuring Sean Patrick Young (attorney registration number 36139). The public censure took effect March 4, 2016.
On May 8, 2015, the Third District Court of Salt Lake, Salt Lake County, Utah, publicly reprimanded Young for failing to inform and consult with his clients about their options, failing to competently prepare for an immigration hearing, and neglecting to timely file and serve his immigration clients’ application. Young also falsely claimed in court that he had filed the application and served it on opposing counsel, even though he had not done so. Through these actions, Young violated professional rules mandating that lawyers act with competence, diligence, reasonable communication, and candor towards tribunals.
Young’s misconduct constitutes grounds for reciprocal discipline pursuant to C.R.C.P. 251.5 and 251.21, which calls for imposition of the same discipline as that imposed in Utah.
