People v. Daniel James Vedra. 14PDJ057. July 17, 2014. The Presiding Disciplinary Judge approved the parties’ conditional admission of misconduct and suspended Daniel James Vedra (Attorney Registration Number 43596) for sixty days, all stayed upon a three-year period of probation, with conditions, to run concurrently with the discipline imposed in case number 13PDJ064. The probation took effect July 17, 2014.
Vedra represented two clients in a dispute with their relatives over the ownership of a property located in Palestine. Vedra wrote a letter to his clients’ cousin on November 20, 2013, notifying him that he had violated several United States federal and state criminal and civil statutes. He advised the cousin that his clients would forgo taking any legal action if he agreed to cede complete control of the property to Vedra’s clients. Vedra’s conduct violated Colo. RPC 4.5(a) (a lawyer shall not threaten criminal, administrative, or disciplinary charges to obtain an advantage in a civil matter).
