People v. Athanasiou. 12PDJ069. September 20, 2012. Attorney Regulation. The Presiding Disciplinary Judge suspended Nicholas J. Athanasiou (Attorney Registration Number 26771) from the practice of law for a period of one year and one day, effective October 21, 2012. Athanasiou pled guilty to one count of possession of a controlled substance on July 25, 2012. He was sentenced to four years of supervised felony probation with conditions of substance abuse evaluation and treatment and psychiatric treatment. These charges stemmed from his acceptance of cocaine on several occasions from his client as payment for his legal fees. His misconduct constitutes grounds for the imposition of discipline pursuant to C.R.C.P. 251.5 and violated Colo. RPC 1.7(a)(2), 1.8(a), and 8.4(d) and (h).
