People v. Peter D. Menges. 21PDJ008. May 31, 2023. On May 31, 2023, the Presiding Disciplinary Judge approved the parties’ stipulation to revoke Peter D. Menges’s (attorney registration number 28750) three-year period of probation, lift the stay on his ninety-day period of suspension, and suspend him for ninety days. The suspension takes effect June 14, 2023. To be reinstated to the practice of law after his suspension, Menges must prove by clear and convincing evidence that he has been rehabilitated, has complied with all disciplinary orders and rules, and is fit to practice law.
In 2021, Menges, who has an alcohol use disorder, was suspended from the practice of law for ninety days, all to be stayed upon the successful completion of a three-year period of probation. Menges’s probationary terms included extensive substance monitoring conditions. On September 14, 2021, the parties stipulated to restart Menges’s probationary period after Menges self-reported that he had twice failed to comply with his probationary conditions. Then, beginning on May 25, 2022, the parties stipulated to increase the frequency of monitoring after Menges self-reported two additional instances of noncompliance with his probationary conditions.
Nevertheless, in October 2022 and in April 2023, Menges again violated the terms of his probation, leading to the parties’ stipulation to revoke his probation and to impose a period of suspension.
